About Our Spanish Cedar

  • Genuine Spanish Cedar ( Cedrela odorata ) — the classic aromatic cedar of the mahogany family
  • Warm reddish-brown, straight-grained and lightweight, with a distinctive cedar scent that repels insects
  • Janka hardness about 600 — soft, easy to work, and takes a clean edge
  • Naturally rot- and insect-resistant; a traditional choice for exterior and marine work
  • Kiln-dried and dimensionally stable, with low shrinkage
  • Available 4/4 through 10/4 rough; thicker and wider stock quoted on request

What Builders Make from Spanish Cedar

  • Humidors and cigar boxes — the benchmark lining wood; its aroma and moisture behavior season cigars
  • Musical instruments — classical and flamenco guitar necks, and flute and woodwind bodies (a favored tonewood)
  • Exterior doors and window sash — stable and rot-resistant behind a clear or oil finish
  • Boatbuilding and marine trim — light, stable and resistant to decay
  • Closet and drawer lining — the scent that keeps moths out
