Species for Pergola Timbers
- Douglas Fir — the strongest common softwood, for long-span beams and posts; paint or stain for exterior service.
- Cypress — rot-resistant Southern cypress, the traditional Gulf Coast pergola and porch wood.
- White Oak — for a timber-framed arbor with pegged joinery.
