Custom Wood Millwork in Miami, FL

Estate Millwork is the manufacturer, not a local showroom. We build custom hardwood doors, shutters, and cabinet doors to order in our Pennsylvania workshop and ship them directly across Miami and South Florida. Because everything is made to your dimensions, we work naturally with the openings you actually have — the arched doorway of a Coral Gables Mediterranean Revival house, the tall casings of a Coconut Grove frame cottage, or the specific profile a Miami Beach Art Deco or MiMo district requires.

Millwork for Miami's Mediterranean Revival, Art Deco, and frame homes

Miami's housing is far older and more varied than the skyline suggests. Coral Gables was laid out in the 1920s as a planned Mediterranean Revival city — stucco walls, barrel-tile roofs, and arched openings with heavy wood doors and shutters. Coconut Grove keeps rows of wood-frame "Conch" and Bahamian cottages, some among the oldest houses in the county, while Miami Beach holds the largest concentration of 1930s Art Deco in the country and the MiMo (Miami Modern) resort architecture that followed. A century of humidity, storm cycling, and ground settling means openings in these older homes have rarely stayed true, and stock doors and shutters seldom fit them cleanly. Because we build every piece to the measurements you provide, we can match an arched head, reproduce a moulding profile off an original, or hold a tight sightline in an opening that has moved. If your home sits in the Coral Gables, Morningside, Miami Beach Architectural, or MiMo/Biscayne Boulevard historic districts, send us the profile or the district's requirement and we will build to it rather than forcing a catalog part onto a protected elevation.

Choosing wood for Miami's climate

Few climates are harder on exterior millwork than Miami's: relentless subtropical heat and humidity year-round, intense UV, driving summer rain, salt air along the coast and the barrier islands, hurricane-season wind and wetting, and termite pressure that punishes the wrong material — while interior pieces live in constantly air-conditioned, dehumidified rooms. The right species depends on the application. For exterior doors and shutters we most often recommend Spanish Cedar, Mahogany, White Oak, and Western Red Cedar for their natural rot and insect resistance and their stability through repeated wetting and drying; for interior doors and cabinet doors, Cherry, Walnut, Maple, and Poplar give you the grain and paintability most Miami interiors want. Every board is kiln-dried to a stable moisture content before milling so the piece holds its shape despite the swing between saturated outdoor air and a cool, dry interior.

Getting large millwork into a Miami building

Delivery in the metro is its own problem, and it is worth planning before you order. A Brickell or Downtown high-rise, a Miami Beach or Key Biscayne oceanfront condo, or a Sunny Isles tower will almost always require a certificate of insurance and a reserved freight elevator, and access to the barrier islands runs over causeways with their own timing. A guard-gated community in Coral Gables, Pinecrest, or Cutler Bay adds an entry and staging step, and older single-family homes often receive best through a rear or side yard. Tell us the access situation up front — we can advise on panel sizes that will make the turn, crate for the carrier your building or association allows, and coordinate the ship date so your finished millwork arrives when you can actually receive it.
