ESTATE MILLWORK · HOUSTON, TX
Custom Wood Millwork in Houston, TX
Estate Millwork is the manufacturer, not a local showroom. We build custom hardwood doors, shutters, and cabinet doors to order in our Pennsylvania workshop and ship them directly across greater Houston — from the Inner Loop’s historic districts to the Energy Corridor and the master-planned suburbs. Because everything is made to your dimensions, we work naturally with the openings you actually have: the settled frames of a century-old Heights Victorian, the deep porches of a Woodland Heights bungalow, or the tall proportions of a River Oaks Colonial.

Millwork for Houston’s historic and Inner Loop homes
Houston’s most characterful housing predates modern standardization: the Queen Anne and folk Victorian homes of Houston Heights — the city’s first planned streetcar suburb — the Craftsman bungalows of Woodland Heights, Norhill, and Montrose, and the Tudor, Colonial Revival, and Mediterranean estates of River Oaks and Boulevard Oaks. Stock sizes rarely fit these openings. Because we build every piece to the measurements you provide, we can match an existing rail-and-stile proportion, reproduce a moulding profile, or hold a tight sightline in a frame that has shifted over a century. If your home sits in a City of Houston historic district reviewed by the Houston Archaeological and Historical Commission, send us the certificate-of-appropriateness requirement and we will build doors and shutters that read correctly for the period instead of forcing a stock catalog part onto a protected elevation.
Choosing wood for Houston’s heat and Gulf humidity
Houston runs long, punishing summers, extreme Gulf Coast humidity, torrential rain, and the wind-driven wet of tropical storm season — conditions that punish exterior millwork and swing interior wood between saturated and conditioned air. The right species depends on the application. For exterior doors and shutters we most often recommend Spanish Cedar, Mahogany, White Oak, and Western Red Cedar for their natural rot resistance and dimensional stability in humidity; for interior doors and cabinet doors, Cherry, Walnut, Maple, and Poplar give you the grain and paintability most Houston interiors want. Every board is kiln-dried to a stable moisture content before milling so the finished piece holds its shape through a soaking Gulf summer and a dry, heated winter cold snap.
Getting custom millwork to your Houston project
Greater Houston is spread across an enormous footprint from the Inner Loop out past Beltway 8 and the Grand Parkway, and delivery is worth planning before you order. A tight bungalow lot in the Heights, a general contractor coordinating trades on a River Oaks renovation, or a new build in Katy, Sugar Land, or The Woodlands each change how a piece should be sized, crated, and scheduled — and in a flood-aware city, when it should arrive on site. Tell us the access and site situation up front — we can advise on panel sizes that will make the turn, crate for the carrier your job site allows, and time the ship date so your finished millwork arrives when the site is ready to receive it.
