Will Double Doors Work in my Entryway?

Not all entryways are created equal so yours may or may not be able to support double entry doors. Doing some basic measurements will help you identify if double doors will work for you, for example standard front doors are 36-inches wide and we'd suggest at least a 60-inch or 5 foot space to offer enough space for standard size double doors with each being 30-inches wide. Here are some things to consider when it comes to double doors and whether or not they will work for you.

  • Do I have the required exterior wall space to install double exterior doors?
  • Is there adequate room inside for the doors to swing inward when open?
  • When the doors are open is movement within the entryway awkward or easy?

Can my Entryway Be Modified to Accommodate Double Front Doors

Short answer Yes, but there are things to consider first. Does space permit such changes; will the exterior double doors swing inward comfortably? In some cases you can reverse the hinges and allow the doors to swing outward. Other things to consider are the size of the doors, the location of any staircases near the doors, entry to rooms off of the main entry and lastly access to entryway closets.
