window shutters exterior style: different styles and purposes
Estate Millwork sells many kinds of window shutters exterior style. There are two primary kinds of shutters: louvered shutters and panel shutters. Louvered shutters are composed of thin wooden slats (which can be fixed or operable) set inside wooden frames. Panel shutters are composed of solid wooden panels set inside frames. Within these categorizations, there exist several different exterior window shutter styles.
window shutters exterior style: the panel shutters
Raised-panel shutters are composed of solid wooden panels that stick out from the frame. These exterior window shutters look great with many different types of customizations. We believe they look especially nice on architecture in New England and the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States.
Flat-panel window shutters consist of recessed wooden panels set inside sturdy wood frames. These window shutters exterior style can also accommodate a wide variety of customizations. Like the raised-panel style, they look good on Cape Cod, Tudor, and Federal-style homes, but when detailed properly, can look handsome on West Coast ranch homes or condos, too.
Board-and-batten exterior window shutters are composed of thick, .rustic.-looking slabs of wood of varying thicknesses. These sturdy, antique-looking window shutters look great on many exteriors, but we find that they're especially charming on row-homes in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and other Mid-Atlantic coastal cities, or on ranch or log homes in the Midwest. However, when fitted with ornate brass knobs or hinges, these rugged exterior window shutters look great on a variety of older and reproduction architecture, too.
window shutters exterior style: the louvered shutters
Bahama, or Bermuda shutters are unique exterior window shutters that swing up and away from the house because they're top-hinged. They're especially effective in hurricane and storm-prone climates, such as coastal cities and the American Southeast. Most Bahama shutter styles have fixed louvers, but you can also order Bahama exterior window shutters with operable louvers or other customizations.
Plantation shutters are a modern twist on the louvered shutter style. These exterior window shutters consist of wider, paddle-like louvers, and are popular on modern homes. Of all of the window shutters exterior style we sell, we've found that plantation shutters are exceptionally popular as indoor shutters, too. (Imagine them finished with a dark stain, and complemented by chic metal furnishings and deep, sumptuous fabrics.)
Estate Millwork also sells several varieties of louvered window shutters for exterior use. Like our other window shutters exterior style, our louvered collection can be customized to suit your tastes and needs, and can be created with fixed or operable louvers.
