At Estate Millwork we manufacture all our closet organizers from real solid hardwood and not veneered particle board or MDF. Since our closet organizers are made from real hardwoods they will withstand the test of time and everyday abuse unlike particle board and other cheaper materials. Our closet organizers can be customized to fit your needs and closet size. Custom and odd sizes are no problem, and you can use our online quotation tool to price and order, or for more custom options, please send us your drawings or call to discuss.
Each closet organizer we manufacture begins with FAS grade hardwood lumber, much of which we kiln dry in our proprietary kilns. The rough lumber is machined to the desired dimensions in our finish mill and then is carefully fashioned into premium quality organizers. Our stock hardwood selection includes Red Oak, White Oak, Poplar, Mahogany, Walnut -- over 15 species, but we can manufacture in any species you desire.
Our plant uses only locally sourced domestic hardwoods and premium plantation imports. We do 100% of the processing in the USA, proudly. Much of our wood working equipment is American made and all of our machining, assembling and finishing is done in our state of the art facility in Western Pennsylvania. The skilled craftsmen who create our products, some in the third generation, take pride in each unit we assemble and enjoy the proud heritage that Appalachian hardwoods and Appalachian craftsmen can imbue to our timeless custom stair treads, risers and parts.
Teak wood is known for its lovely golden brown color, although when freshly machined, it can sometimes have a variable pattern. Over time, and with exposure to sun and air, the streaks mellow into the signature golden brown appearance for which Teak is so prized.
Because Teak grows in a sandy soil it has a very high naturally occurring silica content, and this silica impregnates the fibers of the wood making it nearly waterproof. As well as making the wood naturally water resistant the wood’s natural oils double as natural insect repellents. Once milled, Teak holds its shape extremely well, and that stability makes it such an attractive wood for yacht builders, as well as for other builders whose materials must perform under harsh conditions and within tight tolerances.
This resin and oil content that makes Teak wood such an outstanding exterior wood is what can also cause the dramatic color variance we see when the wood is freshly planed and cut. Greys, greens, oranges and harsh streaks will show up immediately and that prized honey brown color is gone, while this can alarming but it is important to realize that this will fade with time.
At Estate Millwork we air dry much of our lumber, and after air drying we finish drying in low wattage dehumidification kilns.
Every piece of wood we purchase is used to the fullest on products, at Estate Millwork we have a very high yield ratio of 94 percent due to the use of automated saws and optimizing software. The remainimg 6 percent which is mostly sawdust and chips are either burned to heat our plant or send to local cattle farmers for bedding and composting.
Nothing is wasted. Some of Appalachian lumber we use comes from Amish farmers in our county who harvest with horses instead of mechanized equipment, and do our rough sawing on 1920s sawmills that are also extremely low input compared to larger commercial sawmills of today. All of our imported lumber is plantation grown, and not harvested from natural forests.
