Solid wood storage chests are not only great for storing seldom used items out of sight but they are also great for extra seating all while sprucing up the rooms décor. Our wooden storage chests are made of premium hardwoods that will stand the test of time and look beautiful while doing so. You can order your storage bench in several different hardwoods like Mahogany, Teak, Cherry, Cedar and Maple. Unlike the cookie cutter storage benches you can get at the big box stores using our designer you can specify the exact size to fit your space.
Each wooden storage chest we manufacture begins with FAS grade hardwood lumber, much of which we kiln dry in our proprietary kilns. The rough lumber is machined to the desired dimensions in our finish mill and then is carefully fashioned into premium quality organizers. Our stock hardwood selection includes Red Oak, White Oak, Poplar, Mahogany, Walnut -- over 15 species, but we can manufacture in any species you desire.
Our plant uses only locally sourced domestic hardwoods and premium plantation imports. We do 100% of the processing in the USA, proudly. Much of our wood working equipment is American made and all of our machining, assembling and finishing is done in our state of the art facility in Western Pennsylvania. The skilled craftsmen who create our products, some in the third generation, take pride in each unit we assemble and enjoy the proud heritage that Appalachian hardwoods and Appalachian craftsmen can imbue to our timeless custom stair treads, risers and parts.
Red Oak, like most of the North American Oaks, is very hearty and grows quite large, it is a very dense hardwood with a medium, open-pored texture. It has a prominent grain stripe that is straight and can be coarser than White Oak when surfaced. Red Oak is a strong species that bends rather well due to its open grain structure, but it can dull cutting edges rapidly, so sharp tools are a necessity to prevent splintering.
It should be noted that due to its high level of tannins, Red Oak will corrode steel fasteners; this can then cause staining of the wood over time. Because of open pores and grain, Red Oak will finish well, but a uniform surface can sometimes be hard to obtain without a pore filler.
