Easy Steps to Measure for Paneling:
Print out 1 copy of this page for each wall that you are paneling and then fill out the form for each wall. Use the diagram at the bottom of this page to understand the types of measurments that you will be taking.
All measurements should be in inches, to the nearest 1/16th (not in feet & inches)
- Enter a short name for the wall on Line 1 (eg: Dining Room North). This will help you coordinate different walls in a room.
- Consider connecting walls:
- If the wall to the left of the wall you are now measuring will have paneling, circle Y on line 2a.
- If the wall to the right of the wall you are now measuring will have paneling, circle Y on line 2b.
- As shown in the figure below, measure the overall length of the wall at floor level, and the overall length of the wall at the top of the paneling and record the LARGER dimension on line 3. Some corners are not plumb, in which case we make the paneling to the larger dimension.
- As shown in the figure below, measure from the floor to the top of where you want the paneling to end, and enter on line 4.
- For each door along the wall, measure the Inset, Width, and Height. The starting point for the Inset measurement should be the left hand corner of the wall. The ending point is the left most edge of the door casing (where the paneling will stop). The Width is measured from the left most edge of the left door casing to the right most edge of the right casing (where the panling will resume). If you are changing the door casings as part of this project, your Inset and Width measurements should be based on the new casing, not the existing casing.
- For each window along the wall whose bottom will fall below the paneling: Measure the Inset, Width, Height and Step. The step is the distance from the floor to the bottom window, which will be some number less than the Paneling Height in step 4.
You can then enter the data from this form into the Estate Millwork Online Paneling Designer, or fax to our customer service department at (814) 267-3369.
